Charoite is described as lavender to purple in color with a pearly lustre. Although not a traditional birthstone, Charoite is a natural birthstone for those born when the year is new (December 21-January 19). Charoite was first discovered in 1940 and named after the Chara River in eastern Siberia, Russia, the only site this beautiful purple to lavender stone is found.
