Red Creek Jasper aka Picasso JasperLike it's name suggests, Red Creek Jasper is found near the Red River in China. It's various shades of red, sienna, yellows and green flow through this natural picturesque stone also known as Picasso Jasper named after the famous painter.
It's pattern variations are created from the flow of sediments or volcanic ash saturated with silica which percolates through rock forming the jasper. Red Creek Jasper is believed to be a protective, healing and stabilizing stone and like all jaspers, brings balance and relaxation to the wearer. |
Rhyolite aka Rain Forest Jasper |
Although rhyolite may look like jasper, it is actually an igneous rock (meaning fire) formed from the cooling of lava or magma. Chemically identical to granite, it cooled from a molten state (as hot as 2192*F), too quickly for crystals to form. Rhyolitic magma and lava is thick so pressure builds until a gas explosion in the volcano throws the rock in particles from big chunks to ash. The stone's creams, browns, mossy greens and grays are reminiscent of a rainforest, and it presents interesting spots and banding.
