I'm back with the next video in our new jewelry care series on the blog... In this video, I share quick and easy ways to store your jewelry to keep it clean and tangle free. It also helps keep one piece from scratching another and protects your softer stones. Let me know in the blog comments what you think.
What you'll need for this project:
It's oxygen and moisture that speed up the tarnishing process. Metals can easily scratch one another or harm your softer stones if you just throw them in a jewelry box together. Not to mention the time we waste untangling the mess of chains in those boxes. This video goes through a simple and easy way to protect all your favorite jewelry pieces and sets you up for traveling safely with your treasures.

Today's video is all about how to clean your silver jewelry with all natural products you have at home.
What you'll need: 1. Flat bottom glass or ceramic pan with sides high enough to hold water 2. Baking soda 3. Aluminum foil 4. Hot water (almost to boiling point) 5. Rinse water 6. Soft cloth or towel for drying well 7. Your tarnished silver jewelry Steps to clean your silver jewelry: 1. Line your glass or ceramic pan with aluminum foil 2. Place your silver jewelry on the aluminum being careful to remove all stones from your chain first. (Make sure the jewelry is touching the aluminum.) 3. Sprinkle baking soda over the jewelry 4. Pour hot water over baking soda to cover all the jewelry 5. Rock the pan gently until all the pieces are tarnish free 6. Rinse well, dry thoroughly and store in air tight container. Remember....oxygen and moisture cause tarnish to develop more rapidly so dry your jewelry as well as possible and store in air tight containers to keep moisture and oxygen away from your jewelry when you aren't wearing it. **Take care not to use this method with antique jewelry that has a patina you like or other jewelry with a patina finish. Patina is essentially controlled tarnish and this method will clean off your patina. In this case, use a silver polishing cloth to clean the areas you'd like to shine and keep the patina where you want it. This is a quick and easy, all natural way to clean large amounts of silver jewelry at home so you spend more time enjoying your shiny clean jewelry for years to come. Just a few tips to keep your jewelry from tarnishing and tangling so you can enjoy it when you want to wear it!! ![]() ![]() If you use our number one rule of jewelry: "Last thing on; First thing off", you can save yourself time cleaning it. Makeup and hairspray build up over time and dull the finish of your pearls, gemstones and precious metals. When it is time to clean your jewelry, we recommend Sparkle Bright Jewelry Cleaner. Most cleaners contain harmful chemicals such as ammonias, acids, and alcohol. Sparkle Bright Products are all natural, non-toxic, environmentally friendly, non-corrosive, and biodegradable. We carry the Sparkle Bright Jewelry Cleaner Starter Kit on our website, at our Baton Rouge Showroom and all our retail shows. Each Starter Kit includes: •4 oz. Liquid Jewelry Cleaner with lift-tray & small Detail Brush •2 oz. Tarnish Remover & Polishing Cream The Sparkle Bright Jewelry Cleaner Starter Kit is ideal for use by those who have less than 20 jewelry items to clean. The average user should experience 12-18 months of high-quality jewelry cleaning from the Starter Kit. It is recommended to use the Tarnish Remover & Polishing Cream on all precious metals every 1-2 months to maintain the brilliance and remove any unwanted tarnish from your gold, silver, and other precious metal items. It is recommended to use the Liquid Jewelry Cleaner as often as you feel necessary to remove the day-to-day dirt, grease, hair spray, perfume, hand lotion, and anything else that can cause your jewelry to appear dull or cloudy. Keep the container of Liquid Jewelry Cleaner in your bathroom to easily dunk and rinse any jewelry piece you want to wear while you do your hair or put on makeup. If a piece of jewelry can get wet, it is safe to be cleaned by the Liquid Jewelry Cleaner. Make sure your jewelry is completely dry before storing it. We recommend storing your silk strung pearls and gemstones flat in your jewelry drawer or box and not hung. Your jewelry should be restrung periodically but storing them flat helps keep them from stretching prematurely. ![]() I discovered this by accident! Every month I polish all my jewelry on display but the pieces I keep stored never need cleaning. The difference? The stored pieces are in individual ziplock bags and organized inside a tupperware shoe box. Oxygen is what makes your sterling and copper tarnish. Keep your pieces separate from each other in small ziploack bags when you aren't wearing them and store them in an air tight container. You'll be able to go a very long time without cleaning! |
