Maligano Jasper - Protective Stone of Harmony and Happiness

I’ve been attending gem shows many times a year for over 16 years. At this point, it’s rare that a stone will stop me dead in my tracks… but this was one of them!

I’ve seen many “picture jaspers” but this was different. It had soft colors but such detail. Each one pulled me in to the scene. Like watching clouds, each time I looked at it, I saw a different story, a different perspective. Like a beautiful master painting, the story I saw changed each time I looked at the stone. The storyteller in me was hooked and Dad & I dug through to choose the very best pieces we could bring home to you!

Where is Maligano Jasper Found?

Interviewing the supplier, I learned one of the reasons I had never seen the stone was it’s a relatively new discovery. It was discovered less than 10 years ago (2011-2012) in a small village in Indonesia called Sulawesi in South East Asia (part of the Sunda Islands). It’s only just now making it’s way to the main stream market. In fact, of all the suppliers in the massive gem show that day, this was the only one that had a selection of the stone (or did… because I bought them out… LOL)

Fun Facts about Maligano Jasper

It’s a rather rare occurrence
Only found in Sulawesi, Indonesia - a tiny village in SE Asia
Formed in areas with ancient volcanic hot springs
Has contrasting hues of blue, grey, yellow, red, orange and beige with brecciated patterns, veins of agate that filled the cavities and dendrites. This is what gives it the fun “scenes” of mountains, rivers, tiny bushes, flowers, oceans or babbling brooks. The story is in the eye of the beholder.

Maligano Jasper is a protective, healing and grounding stone. It is believed to repel negativity, keep you safe in navigating life transformations and encourages harmony, balance and stability. It offers comfort and peace and can help melt away stress or tension.
